Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul posted his 10th annual “Festival Report” on Monday, continuing a decade-long tradition of expressing dissatisfaction with government waste.
In this year's report, Paul brought in the Christmas spirit and began by complaining about all things Congress.
“It's hard to decide where to start with these complaints,” Paul said. said In the annual thread about X, he said, “Every year I think, it can't get any better than this, right? But when you're surrounded by people in Congress every day, none of that matters.”
“I was a one-man DOGE until DOGE caught the eye of a vibrant tech executive and some of the biggest names in emerging media got behind the idea.”
“It's hard to decide where to start this year,” Paul continued. “Fauci? Maybe. He may be gone, but he's not forgotten. Biden? Which one? Harris? Trump? Congress? Too many targets, hard to maintain attention this morning. Today, here in Kentucky. Temperatures may exceed 40 degrees in the state, so this may cause all golf to be cancelled. ”
Paul criticized Dr. Anthony Fauci, noting that the House of Representatives is trying to hold him accountable. While Fauci is still “walking around as a free man,” Paul noted that the next chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will have subpoena power to “enforce.” [Fauci] To turn over everything he's been hiding. ”
“Even better, my good friend Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will be in charge of HHS and will be happy to subpoena other documents,” Paul said. “Do you think he would be willing to flip them over? Merry Christmas and Happy Festivals, Tony.”
Paul also turned to former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who was ousted in the 118th Congress. As a result, Mr. McCarthy spent tens of millions of dollars on unsuccessful primary challengers to lawmakers who voted to vacate the speakership.
“For those who have been kicked off the streets, but not completely gone, former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, congratulations!” Paul said. “Kevin spent nearly $30 million trying to defeat the conservatives who voted him out last year. But he only won one race when President Trump also opposed the goal. Basically, He completely and completely failed. He lost the race by 27 points to 30 points. Why is Mr. McCarthy still on TV when it turns out he was as bad at campaigning as he was in the House? Are you here?!”
That said, McCarthy wasn't the only speaker Paul called on. Speaker Mike Johnson narrowly avoided a government shutdown on Friday, but Paul predicts his chairmanship may be in jeopardy following the funding debacle.
“I said last year that by this festival I would thoroughly denounce the next speaker and the gang that put him in power,” Paul said. “As always, I'm right. I'd like to be the first to congratulate former @SpeakerJohnson who will be gone before it gets warm again in DC.”
In the spirit of DOGE, Paul also published Government Waste Report 2024 Contains $10,000 to support Bearded Ladies Cabaret's ice skating show focused on climate change, $20 million to support an Arabic spin-off of “Sesame Street,” more than $30,000 to breakdance, and duck wetland conservation in Mexico. More than $720,000 in grants for the project.
Paul concludes the thread by saying, “I was a one-man DOGE until DOGE became a bright spot in the eyes of emboldened technology executives. Start-up media heavyweights started supporting the idea. '' he said. “Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy they're here. I gave Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy 2,000 pages of waste to reduce waste in government. Now they're You don't have to work too hard to find what you've already found. ”
