Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) criticized House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) over his proposed spending bill, labeling him a “weak, weak man.”
“I wanted to see @SpeakerJohnson's spine grow, but this bill full of pork shows he's a weak, weak man,” Paul wrote on social platform X on Wednesday. I wrote it in a post.
Paul's comments came after a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government through March was announced Tuesday night, sparking outrage and debate from both sides of the aisle. CR is expected to be voted on later this week.
“The debt will continue to rise. Eventually the dollar will collapse. Democrats are ignorant and big government Republicans are complicit,” he added.
“It's a sad day for America.”
House Republicans are facing internal bickering over including disaster relief and farmer aid as the timeline continues to tick down. Paul said he opposes short-term funding measures that do not include measures to offset new spending costs in the proposal.
“There are some big rewards that exist and I think they should have to make a decision: Do they want to help the people of Asheville or do they want to help green energy companies, multi-million dollar companies with green energy subsidies? Do you want to help? There's about $4 billion out there,” Paul said in a previous statement to The Hill.
Congress needs to reach an amicable agreement by Friday to keep the government funded ahead of President-elect Trump's inauguration in January.
