Rangers are optimistic that Braden Schneider can step up in Adam Fox's absence.

Schneider Steps Up in Rangers’ Win Against Dallas

Braden Schneider took on a crucial role in the Rangers’ defense during their victory over Dallas at Madison Square Garden, filling in for the injured Adam Fox. He teamed up with Vladislav Gavrikov, showcasing a solid performance against the Stars, contributing to the Rangers’ dominance throughout the match.

With Fox on injured reserve and out for an undetermined time, there’s a lot of pressure for Schneider to maintain his level of play. “I thought they were solid,” remarked head coach Mike Sullivan about the defensive pairing. “They’re both very good defenders. Schneider is mobile and brings a physical edge. When they’re defending hard, it’s really effective.”

Schneider recognized the importance of seizing this chance. “We want to make sure we’re having a positive impact on the game,” he noted. “We held our own against them and created some good opportunities in their zone.” However, other teammates will need to step up, especially since Fox led the team with 23 assists and 26 points—just behind Artemi Panarin’s 28 points.

Gavrikov scored the game-winning goal in overtime, but for Schneider, it was about finding his footing in a bigger role. “It’s the same game, but you get a little more confidence,” he said. “I had more pop in my steps and was able to read the puck a bit quicker. It felt good.”

The absence of Fox also affected the power play unit. Sullivan opted for five forwards, with Panarin taking over point duties. Although the Rangers were 0-for-5 on the power play against Dallas, Sullivan remained optimistic about this new setup. “I thought they improved as the game progressed,” he said, referencing a key power play early in the third period. “They were active.”

Sullivan acknowledged that Panarin may require some time to adjust. “He was in a role he wasn’t used to,” he explained. “There’s definitely a learning curve here, but given his intelligence and talent, I believe he’ll adapt quickly. They need more practice to refine their execution.”

On the third line, Will Quill, Noah Raba, and Brett Berard managed to create several chances, with both Quill and Raba taking five shots against Dallas. “This line has a lot of speed,” Sullivan pointed out. “When they play at that pace, they click together, and it becomes a team effort… They used their speed to their advantage.”

Sam Carrick logged a season-low of 6 minutes and 49 seconds on the ice Tuesday, following a prior game with only 6 minutes and 55 seconds of play. Sullivan clarified that Carrick’s limited time was purely a result of the game situation. Meanwhile, Adam Edstrom is considered day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
