WASHINGTON, DC — The Rangers finally got it.
The always-coveted, always-elusive 3-0 lead in the playoff series that has eluded them for years is officially the Blueshirts’, marching into our nation’s capital and taking the lead in the playoff series. They defeated a determined Washington team 3-1 in three games. The first round will be played Friday night at Capital One Arena.
The Rangers, who showed the Capitals the first-round exit door they walked through just over a year ago, just need to push past the home team on Sunday to complete their first postseason sweep in 17 years.
That’s what was expected of the 2024 Presidents Trophy winner, who was considered the favorite against a Capitals team that made the playoffs on the final day of the regular season.
