Rangers completely fall apart in ugly loss to Kings

NEW YORK — Alex Turcotte and Warren Voegele scored in the first period and the Los Angeles Kings defeated the New York Rangers 5-1 on Saturday for their seventh win in eight games.

Quinton Byfield, Adrian Kempe and Phillip Danault also scored, and the Kings suffered their ninth loss in 12 games to the Rangers. Darcy Kuemper made 31 saves.

In the second period, Los Angeles captain Anze Kopitar had two assists as the Kings chased down Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin.

Shesterkin allowed five even goals on 21 shots.

Turcotte took the lead at 7:05, beating the puck past Shesterkin and ending a 2-on-1 break with Kempe. Vogele made it 2-0 at 15:06 of the first.

Byfield scored at 2:46, followed by Kempe at 4:40 and Danault at 5:04.

Shesterkin was ejected after Danault's goal and was replaced by former Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick. Shesterkin fell to 10-11-1 this season.

Filip Sittil scored his sixth goal for New York.

The Rangers were without defenseman Quandre Miller, who suffered an upper-body injury in Thursday's win over Buffalo. Miller was replaced by Connor McKee.

Kuemper improved to 7-2-3.
