Rangers fail to recapture late magic in loss to banged-up Penguins

Just like in the previous two games, the Rangers entered the third period on goal Friday night.

This time there's no slow magic against the penguins at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers were searching for their first three-game winning streak since mid-November, and fell 3-2 to the injured Sydney Crosby and the injured Penguin team. Evgeni Malkin.

They received a pair of slow power plays in the third season, but were unable to capitalize.

And while they were third ahead of the Penguins 10-0, the Rangers failed to score.

Three goals by the Penguins in the second term were too many for the Rangers to overcome, despite Adam Fox giving him a 2-1 lead early in the period.

Philip Tomasino scored what proved to be the winner of the game at the second 11:59, and Pittsburgh made a power play.

The Rangers took the lead at 8:31 in the first period as Vincent Trokek scored after Alexis Lafreniere deflected an attempt to clearance by Pittsburgh defensive man Eric Carlson.

Trocheck's Quicklister is now 1-0.

Igor Shesterkin first stopped all 10 shots that came in his way, but was drafted in the previous scrum of the net later in the period. He was easily checked by the trainer and stayed in the game.

The Rangers took the lead early in the second term thanks to some sloppy plays by Matt Lempe, whose passes were intercepted and turned into a goal for Blake Risotto at 2:25.

However, they moved forward once more as Fox scored 3:39 to get a 2-1 lead. It was Fox's fourth goal of the season and became a Trokek's assist.

Pittsburgh answered with another scoring chance, but Ryan Graves was unable to surround the puck due to a point blank shot in front of the net.

A tinsel defense by the Rangers came to another tie score later in the period as Rickard Rakell scored at 9:07 from Bryan Rust's feed.

Will Quill's stumbling penalty led to a power-play goal by Tomasino, who defeated Patteskin with a single timer on the last assist, earning Pittsburgh the game's first lead, 3-2.

For the Rangers team, trying to run late in the playoffs was another painful loss.

“I think we know exactly where we are,” coach Peter Laviolet said before the game. The Rangers grabbed five points from the second wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference, leaving one game behind at Columbus before the 4 Nations defeated them.

“It doesn't take long to figure it out,” Rabiolet said. “You need to win a hockey game [and] We have to win a lot of them. The chances will score two points and you can grab them. ”
