MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said on “Morning Joe” Tuesday that former President Donald Trump’s claims about double standards in the justice system are “bullshit.”
Mr Scarborough said: “Let’s take a step back. Every day, defendants go out and personally attack defendants, suggest that defendants are corrupt, suggest that the court system is rigged, and criticize defendants and their families. Judge Machan had to show restraint in a situation that became very personal.I probably wouldn’t do that.If I were a judge, I wouldn’t care who the defendant was. If they don’t, they’ll go to jail.”
He continued: “I took them in shackles day in and day out, whether it was a Democrat, a Republican, a steel worker, a teacher, or the President of the United States. I don’t care if it is. We have to respect the judges because they represent the judicial system. This judge is in the process of finding the balance. I understand, but you take everything in perspective. It’s probably harder to send a former president to prison for contempt than it is for any other American to be sent to prison.”
Mr Scarborough added: “This double standard that Donald Trump is on the wrong side of the double standard, as Aristotle used to say when he debated Socrates, is bullshit, utter bullshit. In fact, there are two standards. Donald. Trump always benefits from double standards. Defense witnesses do the same. Again, I’ve never seen a witness say this in court. I never did, because if I witnessed this, well, I’d see them going to jail the next morning, and they’d be wearing orange.”
