When the Sapiens Institute released its fourth annual World Mental State Report in March, it found that we are all in a very dire situation.
of report is a study of just 500,000 people in just 71 countries, but it makes comprehensive generalizations about how we all spend our time each year. It turns out that in 2023, we were still suffering from the misery of the COVID-19 pandemic. We can’t seem to get over it, the report’s authors argue. The problem is particularly acute for young people around the world, but it is not as bad as people in Uzbekistan claim to feel.
That’s right, the world’s most miserable country is Uzbekistan, with the lowest overall average ranking in the report’s Mental Health Quotient (MHQ) scale methodology. Coming right up on top of Uzbekistan was Britain, which was always a pretty miserable place.

The British are really great complainers. No matter the situation, British people always find something to be angry about. For the most part, sensible Brits are probably still pissed about Brexit and the fact that it means they can no longer easily escape to continental Europe for a holiday in the sun.
But strangely enough, it was primarily the rich countries that were (not) in the worst condition. Having a smartphone or computer and access to literally everything you want isn’t enough for people with money. they want more. more! These results, coupled with other factors such as eating fast food and fewer family and close friendships, appear to extend to all places where access to the internet is normalized, the report said. ing.

Once again I was proven right that we all live a much worse life because of the internet. Don’t tell me that smartphones have made us more connected and more intelligent. Smartphones allow you to ignore your family while sitting in the same room. And we are definitely becoming stupider as a civilization.
So this summer, turn off your cell phone, go outside, soak up some sunshine, start growing your own vegetables and fruits, and complain about living in the easiest society ever. What if I stopped doing it?
