LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kendrick Lamar will be appearing on the NFL's biggest stage next year: The Grammy Award winner will headline Apple Music's Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans.

“Rap music remains the most influential genre,” Lamar said in a statement, “and I'm here to remind the world why: They made the right choice.”
Lamar, 37, has enjoyed huge success since his debut album, “Good Kid, Mad City,” in 2012. Since then, he's won 17 Grammy Awards and became the first non-classical or jazz musician to win a Pulitzer Prize for his 2017 album, “DAMN.”
The rapper's latest album, Mr. Moral and the Big Steppers, was released in 2022. He was featured on the song “Like That” with Future and Metro Boomin, which spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this year. He also had a hit with “Not Like Us.”
In 2016, Lamar delivered a jaw-dropping seven-minute performance at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, featuring songs like “The Blacker the Berry” and “Alright.” Two years later, Lamar captivated audiences as the opening act at the Grammy Awards, performing “XXX.”

Roc Nation and Emmy Award-winning producer Jesse Collins will serve as co-executive producers of the halftime show, and creative direction for Lamar's performance will be handled by pgLang, a creative company founded by Lamar and Dave Free, who has previously directed music videos for rappers.
“Kendrick has proven time and time again his unique ability to create moments that resonate, redefine and ultimately shake up the very foundations of hip-hop,” said NFL head of music Seth Dudowsky.
Last year, Usher shone with a star-studded show, featuring guests like H.E.R., Jermaine Dupri, Lil Jon, Ludacris and Alicia Keys.
