Detroit rapper Icewear Bezzo said his family has traditionally voted Democrat but is adopting the new practice ahead of the 2024 presidential election, basing his vote this year on his “personal experience” with President Biden and former President Trump.
Speaking on “The Story with Martha MacCallum” on Tuesday, Bezzo said voting in the black community should be “effortful,” warning of past instances where people have voted “blindly” and been driven by personal feelings.
“A lot of Democrats assume we should just vote blindly, but I think our votes should be hard-earned,” Bezzo said. “I feel like our parents voted blindly for generations, but I think this generation understands that you have to question and that your vote should be hard-earned. You shouldn’t just vote blindly because people say it’s cool, or tell you who to vote for because they want you to vote based on your personal feelings. I vote based on personal experience. I’ve been through both presidents.”
After meeting with Trump while campaigning in Michigan, Bezzo explained why he decided to meet with the 2024 presidential candidate.
“I told Donald he made the 6 of us great again. @realdonaldtrump,” Vezzo wrote on Instagram. “But seriously, not everyone will agree with this photo but we don’t have to agree on everything. I took a stand of conviction because I know not many people get the chance to speak up for themselves and address how they truly feel. I didn’t meet him as a rapper, I met him as a man and a father who understands the only way things change is to address them.”

Earlier this year, Snoop Dogg said he had “nothing but love and respect” for Trump.

a USA Today/Suffolk University Poll The poll, released Sunday, found that support for Biden among black voters in both Michigan and Pennsylvania has fallen by about 20 percentage points since the last election. In Michigan, Biden received the support of 54 percent of black voters, compared with 15 percent for Trump.
Bezzo said he hasn’t yet “fully endorsed” former President Trump, but is “leaning in that direction.”

“The truth is, I have common sense. We have common sense. We have enough common sense to ask questions. Not everyone who makes music or comes from the frontline or the ghetto. We’re not all stupid. We don’t do all this for the money. No, I’m not paid. I’m just a human being. I’m a felon. I haven’t been able to vote all this time, but now I can. I want to use my right to vote and ask questions,” Vezzo added.
“The funny thing is, my whole life, my family, the generations before my mother and grandmother, they all voted Democrat. They didn’t question it, but I chose to question it.”
