Lil Poppa’s Tragic Death
Rapper Lil Poppa reportedly took his own life after a car accident, an incident that shocked his manager, according to police reports.
The 25-year-old, whose real name was Janarius Mikel Wheeler, crashed his vehicle on a busy stretch of Interstate 85, not far from Hapeville, Georgia. Following the accident, he reached out to his manager, visibly distressed, asking for guidance, as shared by Hapeville Police Chief Bruce Hedley.
His manager instructed him to head to a nearby Hilton hotel, as the car remained operational after the crash.
While they spoke through the car window, things took a heartbreaking turn. Lil Poppa suddenly drew a handgun, aimed it at his head, and pulled the trigger, leaving his manager in disbelief.
The details of their conversation before this tragedy remain unclear.
An off-duty officer at the hotel promptly contacted emergency services. After being rushed to Grady Hospital, Wheeler was pronounced dead shortly before noon.
The Fulton County Coroner confirmed the death as a suicide.
In a heartfelt statement, his label, Collective Music Group, expressed their sorrow over the loss of “beloved family member” Janarius “Lil Poppa” Wheeler. They reflected on his artistry, describing him as a young man with incredible potential, who channeled his life experiences into his music.
Just a week before this tragedy, Lil Poppa had released a new song titled “Out Of Town Bae,” sharing the accompanying music video on his social media that same day.
Best recognized for his single “Love & War,” he had a rich discography, with over ten albums to his name, including his most recent project, “Almost Normal Again,” which came out in August 2025.
