Former Disney Channel Star Alleges Sexual Abuse in Lawsuit
A former star of the Disney Channel has made shocking claims regarding her experiences on set in a recent lawsuit. Raquel Lee Bolleau states that an adult male employee sexually assaulted her when she was 14 years old. This allegedly occurred after Disney staff encouraged her to “bond” with him.
The supposed abuse began during the filming of the 2001 Disney Channel movie “The Poof Point.” According to court documents, personnel had instructed her to spend time with the adult employee, who is claimed to have provided her with alcohol and assaulted her repeatedly throughout the production.
Bolleau recounted an incident following the abuse where the employee told her, “You’re old enough. You can handle it.”
Bolleau mentioned that after these encounters, she arrived on set smelling of alcohol and vomiting, yet Disney staff did not investigate the situation or provide her with the needed support. Instead, an executive described her as “out of control,” and expressed that the movie had become “haywire,” suggesting that Disney was upset.
There were also troubling comments made by an executive producer during filming, who supposedly told Bolleau she “needed Jesus” and that she had “a demon inside her,” as per the complaint.
Bolleau alleges that Disney consistently separated her from her guardian, despite regulations intended to keep a guardian close to minors on set. Allegedly, the staff told her guardian they “did not even need [them] on set,” allowing her alleged abuser to have more unrestricted access.
Furthermore, Bolleau claims the employee harassed her openly on set, including giving unsolicited hugs and whispering inappropriate comments, which could be heard by sound technicians. Despite this, no one intervened.
According to Bolleau’s attorneys, instead of safeguarding their minor employee from repeated abuse, Disney chose to cover it up, shifting the blame onto her for the consequences of the adult employee’s misconduct. They argue that this incident reflects a significant pattern of failures at Disney.
The lawsuit contains claims that the abuse continued even after filming ended. Bolleau asserts that on a flight back to California, Disney booked her a first-class seat, while her guardian was placed in economy. The adult employee allegedly told her to sit next to him and proceeded to assault her during the flight.
Bolleau is suing The Walt Disney Company for not protecting her from sexual abuse as a minor actress. She accuses the organization of ignoring critical warning signs, breaching child-actor protections, and failing to provide adequate supervision. She is seeking both compensatory and punitive damages, alongside attorneys’ fees and costs.
Her lawyers have emphasized that many former child actors have bravely shared their experiences of abuse in the entertainment industry, reinforcing the need for accountability for inappropriate behavior.
Bolleau began her acting career in childhood, first appearing on “Malcolm & Eddie,” before gaining prominence on Nickelodeon’s “The Amanda Show.” She later played a role in Disney’s “The Poof Point.” Bolleau also voiced a character in “The Proud Family” from 2001 to 2005.
She claims the company threatened her role in another production after the alleged assault in 2001. So far, Disney has not provided any statement regarding these allegations.
