Rare photo of US Open player Jasmine Paolini gains widespread attention

What a lucky moment!

An experienced Italian photographer snapped a quirky image of professional tennis player Jasmine Paolini that’s drawing attention.

The shot—in which her face resembles that of a lantern—was taken by Ray Gibiro during his 31st visit to the tournament this past Sunday, as he later shared with the Post.

“It’s just something that can’t quite be explained. You can’t replicate it,” Gibiro noted about the unique photos.

“I find it fascinating,” he said, regarding the veteran photographer’s work going viral.

“Photography has this amazing ability to make you laugh, and even Paolini enjoyed it. She thanked me after her match yesterday,” Gibiro, who has been a staff photographer at Il Tennis Italiano for 37 years and has taken thousands of pictures, remarked.

Paolini, 29, faced Australia’s Destanee Aiava in the match.

In response to the amusing photo, Paolini commented, “It’s the hardest shot to take…but the easiest Halloween costume!” She went on to call it “probably the photo of the year.”

Ultimately, she won against Aiava with scores of 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) on Sunday. She also beat American IvaJovic in straight sets on Wednesday, 6-3 and 6-3, advancing to the third round of the women’s singles.
