Chargers Player’s Ex-Wife Reacts to Divorce and Contract Extension
Stassinny Brown, the ex-wife of Chargers star Rashawn Slater, has publicly addressed a social media post that seems to correlate their divorce with the tackle’s recent contract extension.
After the announcement of Slater’s substantial $144 million contract extension, which includes $92 million guaranteed, NFL commentator Dov Kleiman remarked that it was “good timing” for Slater, especially given his recent divorce from Brown.
Brown reposted a message on social media, stating, “This is saddening. I only have Rashawn’s support. His contract is not about me. Perhaps it’s essential to focus on his career and success instead of dragging me into this narrative.”
Slater and Brown got married in 2022, but the exact timeline of their divorce hasn’t been clearly established.
With his new contract, Slater has become the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL, earning $28.5 million annually.
In an Instagram post, Slater expressed gratitude, saying, “I was blessed to achieve my dreams alongside my family.” He also shared a photo of himself signing the extension with family members present, emphasizing that his success wouldn’t have been possible without their support.
Earlier this month, Slater participated in training camp negotiations while still on his $19 million fifth-year rookie option. The Chargers committed to securing him after he earned a second Pro Bowl selection in 2024.
Slater, who was the 13th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has played all 52 career games as a left tackle. Notably, in 2024, he started 16 games, including in the postseason, contributing to a franchise record for fewest turnovers in a season.
The Chargers are set to kick off their 2025 season against the Chiefs on September 5th in São Paulo, Brazil.
