Kansas City Chiefs’ Lachie Rice Faces Domestic Violence Lawsuit
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Lachie Rice is once again in the news, this time due to serious domestic violence allegations. The accusations came from his former girlfriend, Dakoda Jones, who is the mother of his two children. She took to Instagram to voice her concerns, leading to the filing of a civil lawsuit in Dallas County District Court. Jones is seeking over $1 million in damages.
The lawsuit claims that Rice “strangled” Jones back in December 2023 at an apartment complex in Victory Park, Texas. It also details a pattern of abuse, with Jones alleging Rice engaged in various forms of violent behavior, including physically assaulting her and damaging property. Some of these incidents reportedly occurred while Jones was pregnant.
Rice has faced scrutiny from both the Chiefs and the NFL, with the team noting they are aware of the allegations and are currently in communication with the league. The NFL had previously initiated an investigation but may need to broaden its inquiry following the new civil suit.
This all comes on the heels of Rice being suspended for six games at the start of the 2025 season, a consequence of two third-degree felony charges related to a crash in March 2024. In that case, Rice pleaded guilty to causing bodily injury and racing on a highway, leading to a 30-day jail sentence with a five-year suspended sentence.
Now, the lawsuit could potentially impact the terms of that suspended sentence. Rice has had a challenging season, making 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns after returning from his suspension. In his rookie year, he had a promising performance, helping the Chiefs secure a Super Bowl victory before suffering a knee injury that cut short his second season.
