Lachie Rice Scores Touchdown in NFL Return

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Lachie Rice made an impressive return to the field on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, scoring a touchdown in his first NFL game after serving a suspension.

On Kansas City’s opening drive in the Week 7 game, Rice caught a 2-yard shovel pass from Patrick Mahomes, putting the Chiefs ahead 7-0. It seemed like a solid start for the Chiefs and for Rice—who hadn’t played in a regular season game for quite some time.

It’s worth noting that Rice’s absence stemmed from a six-game suspension related to a serious car crash he was involved in back in 2024. He pleaded guilty to two felonies, which included “collision with serious injury” and “racing on a highway causing bodily injury.” Dallas authorities reported that Rice has paid over $115,000 in restitution to those affected, and he faces a 30-day jail sentence that can be served during a five-year suspended sentence.

Moreover, Rice had previously suffered a torn ACL last season, colliding with Mahomes after an interception during Week 4. Despite these challenges, he was able to recover sufficiently to join training camp, but he stayed away from the team once the season began as part of his suspension.

Earlier this week, Rice expressed his eagerness, saying, “I was looking forward to it. I think it’s been 380 days since I played in a regular season game.” His enthusiasm was definitely palpable as he stepped back onto the field.

In his rookie season back in 2023, Rice managed an impressive 79 catches, totaling 938 yards with seven touchdowns as the Chiefs clinched the Super Bowl title that year. It’ll be interesting to see how his season unfolds now that he’s back on the roster.
