Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) spoke Saturday at an anti-Israel conference in Detroit, Michigan, which has ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), which the U.S. considers a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).

Speaking at the Palestinian People’s Congress in downtown Detroit, U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib slammed President Joe Biden and some lawmakers and called for more action to stop “genocide” in Gaza.

More than 3,000 people registered for the three-day Palestinian People’s Conference, which began gathering in Detroit on Friday from across the United States and some from abroad, according to organizers. The conference’s purpose, organizers said, was “to serve as a forum for assessing, strategizing and preparing what we need for the next phase of our struggle.”

Sessions included “Palestinian Resistance and the Path to Liberation,” “Confronting Zionism in Higher Education,” and “Zionism and U.S. Imperialism.” A vendor fair featured Palestinian artwork and clothing. Many were wearing keffiyehs, head scarves or head coverings that have become a symbol of Palestinian identity.

Among the speakers at the Michigan event was Wissam Rafeedi, an activist with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a Marxist-Leninist terrorist organization active in the Gaza Strip and headquartered in Damascus, Syria. The PFLP is designated a terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department, Japan, Canada and the European Union.

The keynote speaker at the Palestinian People’s Congress was Sanaa Dhaka, wife of a PFLP terrorist. Walid DhakaDacca died of cancer in April in an Israeli prison where he was being held for leading the PFLP operation that kidnapped, tortured and killed Israeli soldier Moshe Tamam in 1984.

As part of promoting the event, one of the organizers, the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), shared a supportive video by Salah Salah, one of the founding members of the PFLP, which has been designated a terrorist organization by the United States since 1997. The PFLP calls Salah a “historic leader.”

One of the speakers at the event will be Wissam Rafeedi, a self-identified PFLP member who also ran a clandestine PFLP publishing house in the 1980s, according to Amnesty International and the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention. Another key speaker will be Sana Dhaka, wife of Walid Dhaka, a PFLP member who was charged with kidnapping and killing an Israeli soldier in 1984 and died in an Israeli prison last month.
Notably, the PFLP has openly boasted about its active participation in the October 7 massacre, in which 1,200 people were killed by Palestinian terrorists and a further 240 were taken hostage in Gaza, some of whom are reportedly being held by the PFLP. Hamas and the PFLP have also coordinated their joint stance on operations in Gaza and deals to release the hostages.
Tlaib has previously spoken publicly about her support for a “one-state solution,” meaning one that would involve the dissolution of Israel. She told the conference that people should refuse to vote for President Joe Biden in the November 2024 election to show their opposition to his support for Israel, however unenthusiastic.
