Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) on Friday went after Republicans who voted to expel former Rep. George Santos (R.N.Y.) but still support former President Trump. He claimed to be far worse than Santos.
Mr. Santos was expelled by a vote of 311-114-2 in the early hours of Friday, marking the third attempt against the New York state lawmaker on a series of ethics charges, including fraud and campaign finance crimes.
105 Democrats and Republicans voted in favor of expelling Santos. Mr. Raskin argued that all Republicans should oppose President Trump, saying he had done worse.
“His crimes, fraud, and lies seem to pale in comparison to those of Donald Trump, who told the big lie that he won the presidential election, but President Trump won 7 million votes, 306 to 232. He lost by more than a few votes, and his statements in the Electoral College subsequently led to the incitement of a violent insurrection against the Union,” Raskin said. Friday’s MSNBC interview.
“Therefore, all Republicans who voted to oust Santos should immediately end their support for Donald Trump. Trump has undoubtedly told a far bigger lie than anything George Santos ever attempted.” he continued.
Raskin, a top Trump critic who served on the House Jan. 6 committee, has long argued that Trump is a threat to the country’s future.
President Trump is facing numerous criminal and civil cases, including allegations of election fraud related to the January 6th Capitol riot.
