Jerry Sandusky is set to be honored in the Ravens Hall of Fame.
This announcement refers to the Ravens’ long-time announcer, not to be mistaken with the infamous former Penn State coach, Jerry Sandusky, who is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence for his crimes. The Ravens’ voice has revealed that he will be retiring from broadcasting.
His well-known phrase, “The hay’s in the barn,” has delighted Ravens fans for over twenty years.
The Ravens expressed appreciation for Sandusky’s unique contribution: “As the ‘Voice of the Ravens,’ he captures the emotions of Baltimore football like no other.” They also acknowledged his numerous awards in journalism, declaring, “Thank you, Jerry, for your dedication and for depicting the unforgettable moments that have shaped the team.”
At 64 years old, Sandusky’s journey with the Ravens began in 2006, where he served as both a radio play-by-play commentator and a TV anchor for WBAL-TV 11.
Often confused with the notorious Penn State figure, he faced many online threats during the fallout of the Joe Paterno scandal in 2012 when social media erupted with messages targeting him.
His tenure with the team has seen significant achievements, including a Super Bowl victory in 2012, under coach John Harbaugh, with the legendary Ray Lewis and Ed Reed leading a formidable defense.
A native of Baltimore, Sandusky grew up in the city and attended Towson University.
Since 1988, he has been a fixture in local sports, starting as a late-night sports anchor, and has been part of Orioles pregame and postgame programming on WBAL-TV Channel 11.
