Ravens' coaching candidates emerging following John Harbaugh's departure

The Baltimore Ravens are in the process of narrowing down their options for potential head coaches following the departure of John Harbaugh.

According to various sources, the team plans to conduct interviews starting Thursday, with assistant quarterbacks coach for the Broncos, Davis Webb, and defensive coordinator Vance Joseph being among the first candidates.

Additionally, they have an interview set up with Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy for Sunday.

The Ravens have also reached out to interview Seahawks offensive coordinator Clint Kubiak and Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.

Moreover, they have requested permission to talk with Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, although a specific interview date hasn’t been determined yet.

Currently, the leading candidate for the Ravens’ head coach position appears to be Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, though there’s no interview scheduled as of now.

As it stands, Calci gives Minter a 38% chance of securing the role, with Flores following as the second favorite at 21%.

The situation for Minter is a bit tricky, considering the Chargers are still in the playoffs and preparing to face the Patriots in the wild-card round.

Other candidates could also come into play; Kevin Stefanski, recently let go by the Browns, is an option. And then there’s Robert Saleh and Chris Shula, both promising coordinators who are currently part of teams in playoff contention.

Baltimore has experienced some peculiar endings to their seasons recently. Just last year, they suffered a 17-10 loss to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game, marred by two critical fumbles, one occurring at their own goal line.

In the previous year’s divisional round, a two-point conversion attempt by tight end Mark Andrews against the Bills essentially sealed their fate.

Harbaugh was let go after kicker Tyler Loup missed a crucial 44-yard field goal last Sunday, which secured a playoff spot for the Steelers and knocked the Ravens out.

The new coach will likely aim to change this pattern and establish strong leadership within the locker room, although, according to NFL Network, Harbaugh faced challenges in that area.

Some reports, however, seem to disagree with that assessment.
