Ravens dismiss John Harbaugh after 18 years as head coach

Baltimore Ravens Part Ways with Head Coach John Harbaugh After 18 Seasons

Reports indicate that the Baltimore Ravens have officially dismissed head coach John Harbaugh following 18 seasons with the team. This decision comes just two days after the Ravens faced a devastating defeat against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which resulted in them missing out on the AFC North title.

In that crucial game, rookie kicker Tyler Loop attempted to secure the championship with a 44-yard field goal, but his kick veered wide to the right, leaving fans furious as the Steelers clinched the division.

Speculation had been swirling about Harbaugh’s future following this loss, and while the firing didn’t take place on the typical “Black Monday,” it marks a significant shift for the Ravens, who are looking for a new path for the first time since 2008.

With Harbaugh’s considerable experience, he’ll likely become a prime candidate for coaching vacancies across several teams, including the New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals, and Las Vegas Raiders.

Over his 18-year tenure, Harbaugh recorded a 180-113 overall win-loss record and guided the team to a 13-11 postseason record. Notably, he led the Ravens to a Super Bowl victory during the 2012 season.

Interestingly, he has achieved more road playoff wins than any other coach in NFL history, which speaks volumes about his ability to perform under pressure.

Now, as the Ravens begin their search for a new coach, names like Kevin Stefanski—previously with the Browns—and Raheem Morris, who was recently let go by the Falcons, are among potential candidates.

Harbaugh initially entered the NFL as a special teams coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1998, building his career through various coaching positions at multiple universities before landing his head coaching job with the Ravens. His first season was promising, wrapping up with an 11-5 record, and he quickly established the franchise as a competitive force within the AFC.

Notably, Harbaugh has only recorded three losing seasons, the most challenging being in 2015 with a 5-11 record. Additionally, he achieved double-digit wins in 11 out of his 18 seasons, including a remarkable stretch from 2022 to 2024.
