The 2026 World Series Matchup is Announced
The stage is set for the 2026 World Series. The Tampa Bay Rays will face off against the Milwaukee Brewers, following the Rays’ victory over the Cleveland Guardians, 7-3, in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS), securing the American League pennant.
The Brewers, who surprised many by sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series (NLCS), had been eagerly watching the ALCS to see who their opponent would be.
Tampa Bay managed to pull off a crucial win in Game 5 on the road, which is always a critical moment when the series is tied 2-2. They capitalized on their first return home to Tropicana Field, and the atmosphere during the sold-out game was electric.
In the bottom of the second inning, Richie Palacios got things started for the Rays with a clutch two-out double, taking the lead to 2-0 early on. Later, with the score at 3-1, Junior Caminero hit what felt like a game-changing home run, sending the crowd into a frenzy. It hit the foul pole, and Caminero couldn’t contain his excitement, celebrating right at first base before he even touched home plate, pushing the score to 5-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning. It was a crushing blow to the Guardians.
Cleveland, however, wasn’t going to back down without a fight. They rallied in the next inning, scoring two runs to narrow the gap to 5-3. But the Rays responded, with Yandy Diaz hitting a long home run that put his team back up by four runs, sailing 416 feet over the left-field wall.
As the game reached the ninth inning, Bryan Baker was on the mound as the Rays’ closer, and he promptly got Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez to ground out. Chase DeLauter then popped out, sealing Tampa Bay’s advancement to the World Series.
This will mark the Rays’ first World Series appearance since the COVID-shortened season in 2020, while it’s the Brewers’ first time in 44 years. One of these teams will finally secure their first World Series title, as neither franchise has won a championship in their history.
