RBC Heritage: Scottie Scheffler growing rivalry with Ludvig Aberg has fans in a tizzy

Scotty Scheffler and Ludwig Oberg are once again at the top of the leaderboard. No, Golf Channel and CBS will not rebroadcast the Masters. The two are currently fighting in the second half of the third round at RBC Heritage.

Will the golf world see a new rivalry blossom before its eyes this week?

The former Texas Tech Red Raider stole the hearts of many golf fans. He turned professional last year and has already won on both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. Oberg was also part of the Ryder Cup team that dominated the Americans in Rome last fall.

His first meeting with Scheffler was in Rome, prior to the 9&7 beatdown Oberg and Viktor Hovland gave Scheffler and Brooks Koepka.

So when he competed and found success at the Masters, we weren’t surprised to see him easily handle the pressure of a major championship.

He was the only player to challenge Scheffler on Sunday. Fast forward to the following weekend and they are once again in the same position at the top of the leaderboard.

Oberg’s coach Peter Hansson, a Ryder Cup alumnus and six-time DP World Tour winner, explained why the fellow Swede ended up playing for Scheffler after his first major. biggest challengeby Golf Monthly Magazine.

“I think Scotty knows,” Hanson said. “They’re going to be fighting for the next five years. You can ask Scotty, but I think he knows it, and I think Ludwig knows it. Ludwig is the guy that Scotty has to get past. I know something.”

Schaeffler is ahead of the rest of the golf world. Things changed when Scheffler switched up his putter and grew a beard. He’s running pretty fast heading into 2024, but who can follow him?

Oberg may be inexperienced, but he could be that guy. The 24-year-old praised Scheffler ahead of RBC Heritage, giving him the honor of being his favorite golfer.

Respect exists, but that doesn’t mean healthy competition can’t exist. He is a silent competitor between the two. They’re making the game buzz.

Fans noticed the similarities and their reactions were priceless. So many people think golf is going to be about Oberg and Scheffler. foreseeable future.

As PGA Tour staff writer Paul Hodwanik points out, Scheffler wasn’t supposed to be featured this week. After a grueling Masters Tournament, where he was supposed to complete laps in a stacked field, the 27-year-old said he wasn’t that fast.

Scheffler took a more relaxed approach to RBC Heritage this week, resting and only practicing on the back nine. However, it seemed like the right choice for him as he aims for his fourth win of the season. Can Oberg replace him and end this losing streak?
