Former President Carter died Sunday afternoon at the age of 100.

Jimmy Carter, 39th President of the United States and 2002 Nobel Peace Prize winner, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29th, at his home in Plains, Georgia, surrounded by his family. He was 100 years old, making him the longest-living president in U.S. history.
President Carter is survived by his children, Jack, Chip, Jeff and Amy; 11 grandchildren. and 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Rosalyn and one grandchild.
“My father was a hero, not just to me, but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and selfless love,” said Chip Carter, the former president's son. “My brother, sister, and I shared him with the rest of the world through these common beliefs. Because he brought people together, the world is our family. Thank you for honoring his memory through our shared beliefs.”
Public services will be held in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., followed by a private burial in Plains, Georgia. Final arrangements for President Carter's state funeral, including all public events and the route of the motorcade, are still pending.
