Real estate firm Cushman and Wakefield hires 1,400 veterans

Commercial real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield is focusing on one particular type of employment: veterans.

“We don't hire veterans as a charity. We hire veterans because they're the best in class,” Bruce Mosler, chairman of Global Brokerage, told the Post. “The intangibles that come with hiring military personnel are changes in morale and culture.”

The company has so far Ranked in top 10 Named the nation's military-friendly employer after hiring more than 1,400 veterans through the Military and Veterans Program (MVP).

This program is offered to recently deployed military personnel and consists of 12 weeks of field training. It also provides guidance to veterans who have a hard time imagining how their military skills translate to the civilian world.

“When someone comes out of the military, sometimes their resumes can be a little hard to read. They're often overlooked or a little bit undervalued,” said MVP Executive Director and Marine Corps Veteran. Matt Disher said. “When I had to write a resume when I was discharged from the military, it was very difficult.”

However, with guidance from MVP staff, most veterans find that their skill set matches the job being offered.

“The military is a microcosm of society, so everything you see in society will be seen in the military,” said Air Force veteran Rick Senkas. Co-founder MVP He and Mosler spoke to the Post. “It's just that the translation is an issue.”

Common career paths include IT, engineering, facilities management, marketing, human resources, and more. For many participants, the MVP program culminates in a job offer at a sought-after company. The company plans to hire 550 veterans this year alone.

Cushman and Wakefield also plan to hire 100 military spouses this year through the Department of Defense's Military Spouse Employment Partnership Program.

“We feel it's important to employ veterans, not just to thank them for their service,” Mosler said.
