Real Madrid seals 15th Champions League title with thrilling win over Borussia Dortmund

LONDON (AP) — Vinicius Junior sealed Real Madrid’s record-extending 15th European Cup title with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the final on Saturday.

The Brazilian forward doubled Real’s lead in the 83rd minute at Wembley Stadium, nine minutes after Dani Carvajal headed in the opener against the Spanish giants.

The win gave manager Carlo Ancelotti a record-extending fifth Champions League title and his third with Madrid.

Meanwhile, Carvajal, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Nacho have all won European club football’s highest award six times, equalling the record set by Madrid icon Paco Gento.

Dortmund failed to make the most of their first-half advantage and paid the price with a number of saves from Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and Niklas Flukrug’s shot hitting the post.

Madrid had the advantage in the second half.

Carvajal received a corner kick from Kroos at the near post in the 74th minute and headed a powerful shot past Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

Jude Bellingham almost doubled the lead moments later, when he provided the assist with a pass to Vinicius, who had only to beat Kobel before the forward fired a shot into the top corner and ran off in celebration.
