Hello, hello, hello and welcome to coverage of RB Leipzig’s trip to the Bernabéu. Real Madrid nicked the first leg, with Brahim Díaz’s staggering solo goal giving them a 1-0 advantage heading into tonight. The 14-time European Cup/Champions League winners got through that game without the injured Jude Bellingham, but he’ll be in for this one, even after things got a little bit rowdy on the weekend.

Madrid are obviously one of the favourites to ride the Jubilee Line to Wembley Park in June – they’ve got the goods, glitz and history. But Leipzig, fifth in the Bundesliga, made a game of it in the opening round, with Madrid keeper Andriy Lunin making nine saves to hold the fort. Leipzig’s manager Marco Rose has admitted his side will need a little bit of luck, but he’s bigged up his boys, too. Here’s to a last-16 thriller, with kick-off at 8pm GMT. (Oh, and here’s Daniel Sturridge setting the scene way better than me.)

Who will score in Leipzig? Reus Openda is a man to watch, having scored 17 goals in the league this season and four in Europe. And all this happened in the 24-year-old’s first year in the club.

“I can’t believe how indifferent everyone is about Xavi Simmons.” Jamie O’Sullivan writes. “I’m not saying it’s all about ‘go for it,’ but that kid is really on his way to the top. You can’t compare what Xavi Simmons has done in football to what Scotty Canham has done in football.”

Thank you, Jamie, for giving me an excuse to post my favorite videos on the internet.

Here are the changes from the first leg: Antonio Rudiger returns to Madrid after Aurelian Choameni takes over as centre-half. Rodrigo will be leaving as well as Brahim Diaz, and Jude Bellingham will be returning.

Leipzig will have Amadou Haidara and Castello Junior in place of Mohamed Simakan and Lucas Klostermann.

Hello, Peter Oh. He writes:

I’m not a fan of Red Bull Football Club’s business model, but RB Leipzig have some players I like. They will be hoping they can pull off a surprise today and stop Real Madrid’s Champions League machine moving forward. Dutchman Xavi Simons is a joy to watch with his cunning and creativity. Austria’s Xaver Schlager is a lively defensive midfielder who can make hard tackles and follow up with deft passes.

“I think what I’m saying is that Real Madrid may have superstars like Vini and Bellingham, but Leipzig have the X-factor.”

Xavi is an interesting player. He learned his skills at Barcelona’s academy and is currently in his second spell at PSG, having been loaned out shortly after rejoining the French club from PSV last summer. He is only 20 years old and has traveled extensively in Europe.

preamble

Hello, hello and welcome to our coverage of RB Leipzig’s trip to the Bernabeu. Real Madrid won the first leg thanks to a stunning solo goal from Brahim Díaz, giving them a 1-0 advantage heading into the evening. The 14-time European Cup/Champions League winners made it through without the injured Jude Bellingham, but he will feature in this game even after a bit of a dust-up over the weekend.

Madrid is clearly one of the best cities to catch the Jubilee Line to Wembley Park in June. They have class, glamor, and history. However, Leipzig, who are fifth in the Bundesliga, had a successful opening game, with Madrid keeper Andriy Lunin holding the fort with nine saves. Leipzig manager Marco Rose admitted his team needed a bit of luck. But his sons grew up too.. Here are the 16 best thriller matches. Kickoff is 8pm Japan time. (Oh, and here it is Daniel Sturridge sets the stage Much better than me. )
