On Tuesday, President Trump encouraged moderate Republicans to “forget salt,” but it seems he wasn’t able to sway them. New York GOP officials Mike Lawler, Nick Larota, and Andrew Garvalino announced their opposition to the proposed package that came out of a morning meeting.
The issue of salt has become one of the central focus points in Republican discussions surrounding legislative advancements, particularly regarding Trump’s domestic agenda.
During a rare visit to the Capitol, Trump led House Republicans in discussions about a “big, beautiful” settlement bill. He shared details about this during a meeting that lasted over an hour, according to the White House.
So, what’s included in that bill? Let’s take a closer look.
Several officials from the Trump administration were present on Capitol Hill for budget and oversight committee hearings. Secretary of State Marco Rubio provided testimony before two Senate panels. This came after speeches from Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump on Monday, which seemed to coincide with an uptick in Israeli actions in Gaza. Additionally, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., along with Homeland Security Secretary Christinom and Dougbergham, participated in various committee testimonies.
There’s also a committee hearing focused on John F. Kennedy, which aims to declassify certain American documents.
