Increasing SSI Applications Amid Uncertainty
The recent surge in Social Security applications has been prompted by uncertainties surrounding benefits and policy shifts. In this climate, many retirees are reconsidering their financial choices, affected by both legislative and economic factors.
People who receive Supplementary Security Income (SSI) won’t see payments in June, although they won’t miss out entirely; it all hinges on the dates on the calendar.
Currently, there are around 7.4 million Americans enrolled in the SSI program. This number includes individuals with disabilities or limited resources. Monthly payments can be crucial; recipients often find that SSI benefits supplement their income significantly.
Typically, Social Security payments, aimed mainly at the elderly, are distributed on Wednesdays. For beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of the month, payments will be received on the second Wednesday—in this case, June 11th. Those born from the 11th to the 20th will receive payments on June 18th, while individuals born after the 20th will get theirs on June 25th. Notably, those who started receiving benefits before May 1997 will receive payments on the third day of each month.
June SSI Payment Schedule
For SSI recipients, regular payment schedules apply, with monthly distributions based on the day’s calendar. If the first of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, payments are made earlier. For example, SSI payments for May were issued on May 1, while June payments are set for May 30, since June 1 falls on a weekend.
Looking ahead, September and November payments will also need adjustments due to holidays; September’s will be issued on August 29, while November’s checks will go out on October 31, with two checks being sent in October instead of November.
Here are the scheduled SSI payment dates for 2025:
- Friday, May 30th (for June 2025)
- Tuesday, July 1st (for July 2025)
- Friday, August 1st (for August 2025)
- Friday, August 29th (for September 2025)
- Wednesday, October 1st (for October 2025)
- Friday, October 31st (for November 2025)
- Monday, December 1st (for December 2025)
- Wednesday, December 31st (for January 2026)
Understanding SSI
Supplementary Security Income is designed to help individuals with limited income, those over 65, or those with disabilities. The SSA confirms that eligible children with disabilities can also receive benefits through the SSI program.
It’s important to note that adults earning more than $2,019 per month from work are generally ineligible for SSI.
