Haylie Duff Reflects on 12-Year Engagement to Matt Rosenberg

Haylie Duff was engaged to Matt Rosenberg for an impressive 12 years before they decided to part ways. Through the years, she has openly shared her thoughts on why they never tied the knot.

During a 2021 interview with Access Hollywood, she addressed her views on marriage, noting it had been seven years since her then-partner proposed. “We weren’t against getting married. We were just… you know, busy with kids and filming and his job,” Duff, now 41, explained. “Honestly, it felt like time was just slipping away from us.”

Mother to ten-year-old Ryan and seven-year-old Lulu, Duff mentioned that she and Rosenberg often said she’d marry him “if it became important to them.” She also shared a sweet moment when Ryan remarked, “Mom, you look so pretty! Are you going to wear that to the wedding?”

With a hint of humor, Duff teased about a “future wedding in Texas,” revealing they were “discussing something like that.” She clarified, “It wasn’t my intention to avoid marriage. Life just took over.”

Reflecting on their relationship, she said they initially thought about getting married soon after having kids, but reality swayed their plans. In a chat from February 2018, she mused, “We talk about it, and think, ‘Maybe I’m ready now,’ but then you know… life happens, and you end up with a toddler.” It was as if they felt married already, just without the official label.

Monday brought confirmation from Duff’s representatives that Rosenberg, 37, had asked her to step back from her job earlier this year.

Duff and Rosenberg started their relationship in 2012, and he proposed in 2014. “Matt completely surprised me with the proposal… on April Fool’s Day!” she recalled, expressing her delight at that moment. “I couldn’t wait to say yes!”

Her sister, Hilary Duff, shared her excitement on social media at the time, tweeting about Haylie’s engagement. However, the sisters have since grown apart, highlighted by Hailey’s absence at Hilary’s 2019 wedding.

In her February album, “Luck…or Something,” Haylie included a song titled “We Don’t Talk,” expressing feelings of loneliness and the desire to reconnect. “It’s definitely the loneliest part of my life,” she revealed to Rolling Stone, contemplating whether to share her experiences.

Though she hasn’t publicly commented on the album, she made headlines in January following her breakup with High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale after some tensions in their friendship.
