Rebecca De Mornay criticizes Hollywood reboots following her exclusion from the 'Cradle' remake

Rebecca de Mornay Talks About ‘The Hand That Rocks the Cradle’ Remake

Rebecca de Mornay has openly expressed her feelings regarding the remake of her 1992 horror classic, *The Hand That Rocks the Cradle*. The 65-year-old actress revealed that she was not contacted about the project, which has left her feeling somewhat bewildered.

“Nobody reached out to me. I found out about it, and it made me quite confused,” she remarked. It felt like a betrayal, she added, emphasizing her discontent with another actor stepping into her iconic role.

De Mornay is known for her chilling portrayal of nanny Payton Flanders, alongside a talented cast including Annabella Sciorra, Julianne Moore, and Ernie Hudson. Interestingly, despite her critical comments, she mentioned that she is still curious to see the new version of the film.

“I really want to see it,” she said, hinting that although she feels strongly about remakes, she still has an interest in how it turns out.

Her remarks come at a time when Hollywood seems increasingly focused on reviving familiar stories rather than crafting new narratives. De Mornay recently starred in the thriller *St. Clair*, which she praised for presenting fresh material, highlighting a growing concern about the industry’s reliance on established properties.

“It appears people struggle to come up with new ideas,” she commented. “It’s a bit lazy to just fall back on something that has already worked.” This sentiment sheds light on her frustration with the current trend of reboots.

Alongside her impressive career, De Mornay reminisced about her past roles, including her experiences working on projects like *A Star is Born*, which has seen various adaptations throughout the years. She noted that if the story is compelling and well-executed, a film can transcend its original cast—though creativity and imagination in the new script are essential.

While a request for comment from her representative has not yet been answered, it’s clear that De Mornay will continue to engage with the evolving landscape of Hollywood, even if it provokes a mix of nostalgia and concern.
