Rebecca Hall Dazzles in Surreal Thom Browne Ensemble
Rebecca Hall nearly had us fooled at the Academy Museum Gala. The 43-year-old actress and director stepped out in a stunning creation from Thom Browne’s Spring 2026 collection, turning heads and prompting a second look.
Her outfit featured a sheer tulle bodysuit layered with a trompe l’oeil design that painted the illusion of an unclothed female figure. Hall took it a step further, applying paint to her torso, giving the impression that she was completely bare beneath the fabric.
This faux body paint technique was crafted by connecting gray cotton seersucker and wool fabrics through an intarsia method. It was a clever choice, especially considering Hall’s background as a painter.
In its runway presentation, the anatomical bodysuit was paired with a gray pleated skirt, but stylist Bailey Moon opted for a sleek, floor-length navy pencil skirt for Hall. It grounded the avant-garde piece for the red carpet, complementing Hall’s artistic flair.
Accessorizing elegantly, she wore jewelry from David Webb and Bryony Raymond, along with simple low-heeled sandals. Her hair was styled in a low bun, with soft waves framing her face, and a gentle smokey eye completed the look. This appeared particularly fitting for the $12 million fundraiser paying tribute to notable figures like Bruce Springsteen and Penelope Cruz.
This ensemble is part of Thom Browne’s “We Come in Peace” collection, which debuted earlier in Paris. The collection embraces a whimsical theme, showcasing models adorned in glittering alien-inspired outfits, and Hall’s bodysuit certainly aligned with that imaginative vision.
On the red carpet, she was surrounded by fellow stars like Kim Kardashian, who wore a distinctive Maison Margiela look, and Hailey Bieber in Schiaparelli Couture. Hall’s choice was not only a departure from typical fashion but also an embodiment of her penchant for engaging and unconventional projects, both in her acting career and her personal aesthetic.
With a reputation for creating captivating optical illusions, Thom Browne has long been a favorite among those looking to make a bold statement. Hall’s latest appearance was another testament to both her style and the designer’s creativity.
