Nationwide Recall of Baby Fruit Puree Due to Toxin
A nationwide recall has been announced for baby fruit puree after federal tests detected elevated levels of patulin, which is a toxin that can present health risks with prolonged exposure.
Initiative Foods reported on Friday that it is recalling one lot of Tippy Toes Apple Pear Banana Fruit Puree following the adverse test results.
Patulin is a toxin that naturally occurs due to molds that can develop on fruits, particularly apples. Consistent consumption of this toxin may lead to various health issues, including potential immunosuppression, nerve damage, headaches, fever, and nausea.
The US Food and Drug Administration stated that, to date, there have been no reports of illnesses or injuries linked to this issue.
