Trade Rumors Heat Up as NFL Deadline Approaches
Today marks the final Sunday leading up to the 2025 NFL trade deadline.
With recent changes in Miami’s management, are we expecting more trades before Tuesday’s deadline?
Let’s take a closer look at the developing rumors.
Miami’s Changes Might Trigger More Trades
Just recently, the Miami Dolphins decided to part ways with long-time GM Chris Grier.
This shift might lead to more player moves ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline.
The Dolphins faced a setback with their loss to the Baltimore Ravens, bringing their record to 2-7. Now, it seems several players could be on the trading block. Initially, pass rushers like Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips were rumored to be likely candidates for trade, while wide receiver Jaylen Waddle was considered untouchable. However, with the management changes, interim GM Champ Kelly is open to at least entertaining offers for Waddle. Ian Rapoport reported that the team has softened its earlier stance on Waddle, now willing to take a closer look at potential offers, even though they hope to keep him if possible.
Rapoport added that Miami is expected to make at least one deal before the 4 PM ET deadline on Tuesday, with the possibility of multiple transactions.
Cowboys Look to Bolster Defense
Several teams are on the hunt for stronger pass rushers as the trade deadline approaches.
Unsurprisingly, the Dallas Cowboys are among those teams.
Rapoport noted that the Cowboys are actively seeking a pass rusher to enhance their defense. Both Phillips and Chubb are reportedly on their radar, alongside Malcolm Koonce from the Las Vegas Raiders.
Additionally, the Cowboys could opt to sign defensive tackle Maji Smith, a first-round draft pick from 2023, who has only seen limited action this year.
Seahawks Receive Trade Inquiries for Maffet and Uhlen
The Seattle Seahawks are currently fielding calls about Boi Maffet and Rik Uhlen, as reported by Adam Schefter.
Given the Seahawks’ zone-heavy scheme, Uhlen’s abilities in man coverage make him an attractive target for teams looking to strengthen their secondary, like the Detroit Lions.
Maffet has accumulated 15 sacks over the last two seasons but has struggled this year with only one tackle and no sacks in seven games. With him set to become a free agent, Seattle might prefer to trade him rather than risk losing him without compensation.
Browns Considering Trades Amid Bye Week
The Cleveland Browns are enjoying a bye week, which, as many fans might say, means their team can’t disappoint them on the field this weekend.
At 2-6 and having lost three consecutive games, some speculate that the Browns could offload players at the deadline. However, sources suggest that GM Andrew Berry may actually be looking to acquire players instead.
According to ESPN, many believe the Browns will actively pursue acquisitions before the deadline.
With rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr. stepping up, there’s talk that tight end David Njoku could be on the move. Despite that, Schefter mentioned that the Browns are currently “not inclined” to trade Njoku but are still looking to add young talent to their roster.
Market Interest in Logan Wilson
Veteran linebacker Logan Wilson, who requested a trade from the Cincinnati Bengals due to decreased playing time, has caught the attention of three potential suitors.
The Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys, and Indianapolis Colts are all interested in the linebacker, according to Schefter. Buffalo and Dallas both have urgent needs on defense, while joining Indianapolis would reunite Wilson with Lou Anarumo, who was his defensive coordinator in Cincinnati.
Eagles Eyeing Pass Rush Improvements
The Philadelphia Eagles are also looking to enhance their pass rush. As speculated by sources, Jalen Phillips, along with Jermaine Johnson and Myles Garrett, are among those being considered.
While there are conflicting reports about Garrett potentially heading to Philadelphia, there’s buzz about the Eagles being willing to trade significant assets for him, potentially offering several first-round picks. Yet, the Browns seem disinclined to part with Garrett.
On a related note, Diana Russini from The Athletic provided a cautious perspective, suggesting that while discussions about Garrett’s availability have occurred, sources claim he “is a Brown and will always be a Brown.”
