Photo Released of Brian Kohberger Post-Arrest
A recently surfaced image shows Brian Kohberger, looking somewhat dazed in handcuffs shortly after his arrest for the tragic murder of four University of Idaho students.
Captured on December 30, 2022, the 30-year-old suspect was photographed shortly after he had sorted through his trash at his parents’ residence in Albrightville, Pennsylvania.
“I’ll never forget that moment—my phone rang, and I realized, ‘We’ve got him,’” recalled Moscow Police Chief Anthony Darlinger when discussing the apprehension of Kohberger.
In the photo, Kohberger appears to wear typical attire for a graduate student: black shorts and a hooded sweatshirt, staring directly into the camera.
Idaho State Police Lt. Colonel Darren Gilbertson, one of the officers involved in the questioning, later described Kohberger’s demeanor as “extremely blank.”
During the initial interrogation, Gilbertson began with general questions about Pullman and Washington State University, which Kohberger responded to thoughtfully. However, everything changed when the topic shifted to the murders.
“As soon as we brought it up, he completely shut down, saying, ‘I don’t want to talk anymore,’” Gilbertson recounted. The officers asked him if he was familiar with the crime or Moscow, to which he replied “No,” and then he requested a lawyer.
Kohberger was ultimately sentenced to life in prison last month for the deaths of Xana Kernodle, Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, and Ethan Chapin at their off-campus home in Moscow.
