Record Count in TSA's History

On Sunday, November 30, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced a record-breaking number of inspections, reaching an all-time high.

“Breaking News: Yesterday, TSA screened around 3,133,924 individuals, the highest in TSA history. The ten busiest days have all surpassed 3 million screenings,” the agency reported, along with a graph detailing the most significant screening days ever recorded.

Following this record-breaking day, June 22, 2025, came in second with 3,096,797 screenings, then December 1, 2024, with 3,088,836; July 20, 2025, with 3,043,973; and July 6, 2025, with 3,041,954.

Interestingly, eight out of the ten busiest screening days in TSA’s history occurred this year, whereas the other two are from last year, 2024.

This announcement followed an extended government shutdown, which was the longest in U.S. history. Many were concerned that an agreement would not be achieved before the busy Thanksgiving period. However, President Donald Trump signed a bill on November 12, reopening the government after 43 days of shutdown.

As the Thanksgiving travel season approached, which is expected to see around 82 million travelers, including 6.07 million by air, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy shared some advice. He suggested that travelers show “civility” and to “dress a little better” at airports.

“But we should probably ask, ‘How can we do better?'” Duffy remarked to reporters at Newark Liberty International Airport. “Maybe we could show our appreciation to the pilots and flight attendants.”

He added, “It’s really about dressing respectfully.” Duffy encouraged passengers to opt for nicer attire, mentioning that perhaps it could lead to better behavior overall.

“Avoid showing up in slippers or pajamas when you come to the airport,” he suggested. “That seems like a good idea.”

This suggestion came as the FAA indicated that it anticipates the busiest travel period in over ten years, with more than 52,000 flights scheduled for November 25, marking a peak travel day.
