Red Bulls star Emil Forsberg misses kids amid family drama

Red Bulls captain Emil Forsberg tried to answer some of the questions surrounding the situation with his family on Wednesday after his wife, Shanga, claimed in an Instagram post that the player had been “ignoring” and “ghosting” them.

Forsberg, 32, told the Daily Mail: He said he felt lonely away from his family in the United States and “didn’t want to be away from my daughters.”

“But this is the way it is, so there’s not much I can do. But if we do that, the problem will be solved,” Forsberg told the outlet.

In March, his wife filed for divorce in Sweden and claimed in a lengthy post that Mr Forsberg had not been in contact with her and their two children in his home country.

After the Daily Mail article was published, Shanga posted a cryptic message on her Instagram Story.

“Actions always have consequences. Be prepared for those consequences before you take action,” the image read.

A lengthy post in March said the pair had “separated” and that Shanga felt “taken for granted”.

“I love you more than anything and have always supported you,” the post read in part. “But love has its limits. My greatest love is my children. I want them to know their worth, just as I know my own. Being taken for granted and ignored is not love. Your new start in New York was apparently a new start for you and your life. I just didn’t know that beforehand, as a child. But it soon became painfully clear. In the papers, we read and saw that you were doing well and ‘enjoying every moment.’ You also have plans for the future. We didn’t even know that.”

She also wrote at the time, “The happiness and safety of my children will always be my number one priority. I hope for your sake that you have no regrets and that your new life in New York is worth the divorce and the way you have treated my children and their mother.”

A Red Bulls spokesman declined to comment on the matter when contacted by The Washington Post on Wednesday.

Forsberg was placed on the injured list earlier this month with a lower leg injury and was expected to miss four weeks.

On the pitch, Forsberg has been a big factor in the Red Bulls’ success this year and why the team enters Wednesday’s game against Montreal in fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

He has six goals and four assists in 13 appearances this season.
