Red Hot Chili Peppers Achieve Major Feat By Releasing Two No. 1 Albums Within A Year

Within the last year, the Red Hot Chili Peppers released two albums that charted no. 1 in the rock category, ending a 17 year drought in rock music since the last time that happened.

The last time a rock group released two top-selling albums within a 12-month window was in 2005, according to Billboard.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ most recent album dubbed “Return of the Dream Canteen” was released on October 14 and debuted at no. 1 in the rock album Billboard category. (RELATED: Kid Rock Releases His New Album ‘Bad Reputation’)

The latest Chili Peppers album sold 56,000 records in the United States within the first week of its release.

Earlier this year, the rockers released another album, “Unlimited Love,” which was also a no. 1 rock record. (RELATED: Red Hot Chili Peppers Make Huge Announcement In Zany Video)

Guitarist John Frusciante re-joined the Chili Peppers in 2019 after a decade-long hiatus from the group. Frusciante left the band in 2009, claiming his musical interests led him in a “different direction,” according to Grammy.com.

The last band to score two number one albums within a year of one another was the group System of a Down way back in 2005 with their musical efforts “Mezmerize” and “Hypnotize,” respectively, according to Billboard.

This is not the first time that the Red Hot Chili Peppers have released a Billboard certified top-selling album.

In addition to the two latest projects, their albums “The Getaway” from 2016 and the 2006 double-album “Stadium Arcadium” were both no. 1 hits as well.
