Red Sox acquiring White Sox ace Garrett Crochet in blockbuster trade

The Red Sox have finally made a breakthrough.

After missing out on a number of high-profile free agents, including Juan Soto and Max Fried, the Red Sox have agreed to a trade for White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet, the Post's Joel Sherman has confirmed.

Sherman reported that potential acquisition Kyle Thiel is expected to be traded back to Chicago.

The Red Sox are close to a trade to acquire pitcher Garrett Crochet from the White Sox.

The White Sox will also acquire outfielder Brayden Montgomery, infielder Chase Meidroth and right-hander Wikelman Gonzalez, the newspaper's Jon Heyman confirmed.

Crochet was named an All-Star last year.

He posted a 6-12 record on a terrible White Sox team, with a 3.58 ERA and 1.068 WHIP.

Thiel is one of the most coveted prospects in the industry, currently ranked 25th in the world. MLB Top 100 List.

Montgomery is ranked No. 54, and Maidross and Gonzalez are not on the list.

After the team lost to Soto, Fried, and Shane Bieber, there was anxiety within the Red Sox.

Bill Simmons, a big Boston fan, posted a series of screenshots mocking how “seriously” the team is pursuing these players.

Lou Marone, a former Red Sox infielder and current WEEI talk show host, urged the team to pursue former Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes.

“So, that's [Toronto, San Franciso] And Boston?? SF is scary. We just need a win.” Merloni told X. “Barnes is absolutely necessary. Then he can tinker with the bullpen or depth arms or pick up the bat. It doesn't matter, but he has to be at the top of this rotation to be what they want.” We need players who are there.”

The Red Sox missed the playoffs last season with a record of 81 wins and 81 losses.
