Boston Red Sox Pitcher Walker Buehler Ejected During Game
Walker Buehler, the pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, made his return to the mound on Tuesday night in a game against the New York Mets, but it wasn’t a lengthy appearance.
His troubles began in the third inning when he pitched to Juan Soto. The broadcast displayed the strike zone low and inside, which led to Mets infielder Francisco Lindor stealing second base.
Buehler expressed frustration with home plate umpire Mike Estabrook’s calls. He was overheard saying, “It’s just below the f—ing middle. It’s f—ing middle. … f— Just below you.” This outburst cost him his spot in the game. Following this, Red Sox manager Alex Cora supported Buehler as he, too, was ejected after arguing with the umpire.
Despite the chaos, the Red Sox managed to win the game 2-0.
After the game, Buehler reflected, “I’m not going to talk about what he did or didn’t do. I don’t think that’s my place… At the end of the day, putting our team in that position is the only thing I really regret.”
This event marked Buehler’s second ejection of his career and his first appearance back after being activated from the injured list. Crew member Juan Diaz noted that Buehler had crossed a line when he left the mound to engage with the umpire.
“He can say things from the mound, but once he leaves the mound, it’s an immediate ejection,” Diaz explained. Buehler’s manager, Cora, admitted he was taken aback by the decision, hoping Estabrook would have ejected him instead while keeping Buehler in the game.
Buehler’s current ERA stands at 4.00 with 33 strikeouts this season.
