Governor and Mayor Booed at Red Sox Home Opener
During the Boston Red Sox’ home opener, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu faced boos from the crowd. The two Democrats participated in a pregame ceremony at Fenway Park before the game against the San Diego Padres.
With over 36,000 fans present, the booing was loud and persistent. This reaction quickly gained traction on social media, offering a talking point for Republican candidates in the state.
Brian Shortsleeve, one of the GOP nominees, shared his thoughts on X-Video, saying, “Hey, everyone, I’m here from Fenway Park. Just a quick update. It’s been a great afternoon. The Red Sox are up by one. Huge boos for Maura Healey and Michelle Wu.” Another candidate, Mike Minogue, added a video clip of the boos, commenting, “Looks like the fans want someone else to be at bat.” Mike Keneally also expressed his support, saying, “Hey, I love Red Sox Nation!”
Notably, Healey had recently called for major airlines to halt flights to ICE in light of recent shootings linked to the agency in Minneapolis.
In October, one of Healey’s aides faced arrest for cocaine trafficking after authorities intercepted a package containing drugs sent to the statehouse. Meanwhile, Mayor Wu has frequently attracted criticism for her stance on immigration enforcement, previously accusing federal immigration officials of misconduct and releasing footage related to their operations in the city.
