Redondo Beach Pier cleared following 'suspicious situation'

The Long Beach Police Department informed the California Post that all officers, including the shift commander, were on standby Sunday morning due to a reported “suspicious situation.” This prompted authorities to order an evacuation around the Redondo Beach Pier.

Just after 11 a.m., the Redondo Beach Police Department issued an evacuation order, urging anyone near the pier to leave immediately as police activities were ongoing.

“Police operations are underway at the pier. All persons in the vicinity of the pier are asked to evacuate safely,” the department stated. “Please stay away from the pier area until further notice.”

Officials also closed Catalina Street between Torrance Boulevard and Beryl Street as a precaution. The exact nature of the incident remains unclear, and it was not specified what triggered the intensified police response.

This disruption occurred as the nearby Beachlife Festival was approaching its final day, with performances from artists like Sheryl Crow and James Taylor slated for later. It’s uncertain whether this situation will impact the event.

No injuries or arrests have been reported, and as of Sunday morning, there were no further details from the authorities.
