Reform UK Distances Itself from Controversial Speaker
Reform UK has distanced itself from a speaker at a recent conference who claimed that Covid vaccines might be linked to the cancers affecting the King and the Princess of Wales.
Aseem Malhotra, who serves as an adviser to US health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., stated, “One of Britain’s leading oncologists, Professor Angus Dalgleish, suggested I share with you all that he believes it’s highly likely the Covid vaccines have played a significant role in the royal family’s cancer cases.”
In response, Wes Streeting, the health secretary, characterized the invitation extended to Dr. Malhotra as “shockingly irresponsible.”
The party itself clarified that while it does not endorse Dr. Malhotra’s views, it upholds the principle of free speech.
Claims Made at the Conference
During his appearance in Birmingham, at an event titled “Make Britain Healthy Again,” Dr. Malhotra also asserted that research suggests mRNA vaccines might alter genetic material.
He further claimed that the risks associated with the Covid vaccine could outweigh the dangers posed by the virus itself, stating, “It’s highly likely that no one should have received this vaccine.” He continued, alleging that the World Health Organization has been influenced by Bill Gates and called for its replacement.
Dr. Malhotra faced criticism from health minister Stephen Kinnock, who referred to him as an “anti-vax conspiracy theorist.” On stage, he challenged the audience by asking, “Have you heard anything anti-vax or conspiracy theory so far here?”
Many health experts have discredited Dr. Malhotra’s opinions, indicating that they lack scientific backing, and the NHS maintains that Covid vaccines are compliant with rigorous safety protocols.
Expert Reactions and Cancer Links
Claims linking Covid vaccines to cancer have been dismissed by various academics and oncologists, who previously countered assertions about “turbo cancers.”
Professor Brian Ferguson from the University of Cambridge criticized Dr. Malhotra for echoing a “far-fetched conspiracy theory that only serves to undermine the credibility of its proponents.” He added, “There is no credible evidence that these vaccines interfere with tumor suppressors or initiate processes that lead to cancer. It’s particularly insensitive to draw a connection between this pseudoscience and the unfortunate cancer situations in the royal family.”
The King’s cancer diagnosis was publicly acknowledged in February 2024, with the palace confirming he is undergoing treatment without revealing specific details. Catherine’s diagnosis was shared in March 2024, and she reportedly went into remission in January, though she too has not specified her type of cancer.
Streeting expressed concern over declining vaccination rates among parents and the resurgence of eradicated diseases, urging, “It’s shockingly irresponsible for Nigel Farage to provide a platform for these harmful falsehoods. Farage should apologize and cut all ties with this dangerous extremism.”
A spokesperson for Reform UK stated, “Dr. Aseem Malhotra is a guest speaker with his own perspectives and an advisory role in the US government. While Reform UK does not endorse his comments, we firmly believe in free speech.”
