Refs stunningly reverse call on buzzer-beater in NJ HS playoff game

There appears to have been a surprising upset in the New Jersey high school boys basketball playoffs with a game-winning buzzer-beater.

Until it doesn’t.

With less than six seconds remaining in the state semifinals, Manasquan High School, trailing Camden High School by one point, appears to have scored the winning shot by hitting the glass, sparking wild celebrations in Bayville. Ta. Tuesday evening.

But shortly thereafter, the referee reversed the call and said the bucket actually came after the final buzzer, instead Camden said, No. 2 team in the state in Max Preps.won 46-45 in the Group 2 semifinals.

The wild sequence began when Camden’s Aliyah Curry sank a free throw with 5.8 ticks left to give Camden a one-point lead.

Manasquan immediately inbounded the ball and ran up the court, and after a long-range shot missed, Griffin Linstra bounced the ball right under the hoop and put the ball in the goal as if the buzzer had sounded, and the referee called First I counted the baskets.

Manasquan fans flooded the courtroom as the raucous celebration began.

Nevertheless, According to the Asbury Park Press After watching the video of the game, the referees huddled together on the court and determined that the basket had actually come after time had elapsed.

Head coach Andrew Bilodeau said after the game that he felt like 0.6 seconds or so should have actually been added after the shot.

It’s not clear whether there should actually be 0.6 seconds left on the clock, but video from the venue shows there was still time left on the clock when Linstra raised his final bucket.

“They reversed the call,” Bilodeau said after the game, according to the Asbury Park Press. “The referee who was in the center C position signaled, ‘Basketball good,’ and they swarmed, and then 15 kids messed up in front of a crowd of 1,000 people. Print that out. 5 times. Please print it.

“Those three got together and fucked the kids up in front of 1,000 people. The video was put on the internet for everyone to see.”

Camden coach Maalik Wains said his team was “lucky” to get the impressive win.
