Reggie Jackson leaving Astros front office position

Baseball Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson is once again a free agent after leaving the Astros, the Post reported.

Jackson told the newspaper that he recently told Astros owner Jim Crane that he was leaving the team after nearly four years as a “pseudo executive.”

Jackson said he “stepped away” from the Astros to spend more time with his family at home in California.

However, he did not rule out a return to baseball or the Yankees.

“This has always been home to me,” Jackson told the Post by phone. “I'm a Yankee. I'm still a Yankee.”

The man known as Mr. October visited Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner at a World Series game in New York last month.

Does this mean he will return to the Bronx?

Although the topic of appointment was not brought up, Yankees officials did not rule out the possibility of Jackson returning to the team where he spent five years as a superstar player and more than 20 years as a team executive.

There's still no work for a player who won seven of his 12 pinstriped World Series rings — two as a player (plus one unofficial extra for his historic three-home run game). 5 pieces with “”.[Derek] Jeter’s crew,” he said.

But for now, he said his goal is to spend more time with his daughter, three grandchildren and five siblings, four of whom are in their 80s.

Jackson himself is nearing 80 years old.

“I may look 77 years old, but I'm 78,” he quipped.

Apparently he wore it all the time when he was out.

“I enjoy being around the ballpark, but the roads are getting a little old,” Jackson said. “I still like being around the game. [But] I don't really want to leave. I'd like to see what this is like. ”

After leaving the Yankees, he joined the Astros at the beginning of the 2021 season.

After George Steinbrenner's death in 2010, his influence within the organization waned, and after his tenure, he reportedly said he felt like a “decoration” during his final years with the Yankees. There is.

The new emphasis on analytics is adjustment, and his move to the analytics-heavy Astros came as a surprise. That said, Houston recently hired longtime scout Dana Brown as general manager, balancing that with a prominent role for the former star. Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio.

“The game is changing,” Jackson said. “But you still hit the ball, you still catch the ball, you still have a clutch performance…”

Jackson said he was traveling “two or three times” a month on Astros assignments, but it became too much. But he enjoyed the job.

“I really loved working with Jim Crane. He's a great guy and a great leader,” Jackson said. “I learned a lot being around Jim Crane. He'll always be a friend of mine. And that fan base is special. Hey, they love the Stros.

Jackson did not deny that he had the same feelings toward the Yankees. But, at least for now, he will focus on other endeavors. “I have a lot of other businesses,” he said. He also has a car collection, car dealership, and endorsements.

He also said, “Reggie Barr is back.”

One day in October, he returned to the Bronx and met up with his old friend Willie Randolph and other friends.

He also felt the tough loss in Game 5 of the World Series.

“You can't give a team 28 outs. We gave them 30 runs,” Jackson said of the fateful bottom of the fifth inning and the Yankees' 7-6 loss that clinched the championship. “Even if you have the best pitcher in the game, you can't give a team six outs in an inning. Gerrit Cole is definitely one of the best pitchers.”

For a while there, he sounded like a Yankee again.
