First, the new streaming service isn’t an independent service like the ill-fated CNN+.
Second, whatever the name of this new CNN streaming outlet is, it’s free.free—For those who already subscribe to Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) streaming service Max (formerly HBOMax).
In other words, CNN is being demoted to just an add-on to existing streaming services.
why?
WBD knows that CNN cannot survive on merit alone: it is a standalone product that can survive on either subscription fees or advertising revenue.
The launch of CNN+ in 2022 was a catastrophe countless times, but all could be forgiven if the streaming service came close to its subscriber count projections. by “Expert” CNN+ was soon to amass millions of subscribers. CNN+ was expected to have between 7 million and 10 million subscribers that day.
The reality was quite different. At any given time, he had only 4,000 people tuned in to CNN+.Daily users are about 10,000. Many reports state: 100,000 subscribed.
A station as ridiculed and despised as CNN, a station struggling to amass half a million primetime viewers, somehow manages to amass millions of subscribers. The idea… well, only media “experts” can believe that.
Another viability issue for CNN is that the fraudulent cable TV scam is disappearing, and it is the fraudulent cable TV scam that artificially keeps CNN alive. With such a small audience, CNN cannot survive on advertising revenue alone. Streaming is performance-oriented. To actually make money, you have to attract and retain your audience. This is why most of these streaming services are losing billions of dollars. This is why CNN+ ended four weeks after him. Cable TV fraud allows unpopular and failing stations like CNN, MTV and Comedy Central to hide how unpopular they are under a pile of unearned income.
