Remains confirmed as missing Wisconsin boy

Skeletal remains discovered in Wisconsin over the weekend belong to a 3-year-old boy who went missing in February, police said Friday.

The Two Rivers Police Department confirmed the remains were those of Elijah Vue, who was the subject of an Amber Alert when he went missing.

“The family is heartbroken. We are heartbroken. Our community is heartbroken,” Two Rivers Police Chief Benjamin Meinert said. “I never met Elijah, but I have watched this 3-year-old boy bring out the best in this community.”

The alert was lifted on Friday.

“What started as a search for a missing juvenile has now become a death investigation,” the chief said.

Authorities said the remains, consisting of a skull and bones, were discovered by a deer hunter in a wooded area on private property in Two Rivers on Sept. 7. The area had been searched several times by authorities and the landowner, both on foot and by aerial vehicle, police said.

The Wisconsin State Crime Lab ran DNA tests on the remains, and police said the results provided a positive identification for Vieux's family.
