Human Remains Found in Rhode Island Not Connected to Serial Killer, Police Say
The police chief of a Rhode Island beach town has stated that the human remains discovered recently are not linked to any serial killer active in New England. “As far as I’m concerned, this has nothing to do with a serial killer for now or any New England murderer,” said Westerly Police Chief Paul Gingerara.
The body was located in Watchhill, an affluent area of Westerly, which happens to be close to the impressive mansion of pop star Taylor Swift. It’s a well-known region, notable for its lavish properties and beautiful scenery.
Gingerara noted the influence of social media on public fear, commenting that while the internet can spread rumors, it also has its benefits. Speculation has circulated in New England after a total of 13 bodies were found across Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts since March.
He added that the Rhode Island Medical Examination Office is currently working to identify the remains. The bodies discovered span from Massachusetts to Connecticut to Rhode Island, totaling five in Massachusetts, five in Connecticut, and three in Rhode Island. Among them, six victims have been identified as women, three as men, while the remaining four are still gender-unknown.
Interestingly, there’s a range in the ages of the identified individuals: seven victims are over 45, while two are aged between 25 and 44.
This recent find in Westerly follows the discovery of another body just weeks earlier on the Seekonk River in Pawtucket, which is about 48 miles away. The first identified body in Rhode Island was that of Michele Romano, found in Foster, roughly 49 miles from Westerly. Romano’s family insists her death is not connected to any fears of a serial killer.
The family expressed their assurance in the Rhode Island State Police and private investigators, confident that those responsible will face justice. They firmly stated that false claims linking Michele to any serial killer should cease.
The Rhode Island State Police and the FBI have yet to comment on the situation.
