Remains of Kansas City highway shooting suspect thought to be found in a burned house

FBI announces reward for suspect in Kansas City shooting near World Cup stadium

Manhunt for Kansas City Shooting Suspect Enters Day Seven

The search for 22-year-old Oscar Sanchez Munoz in Kansas City, Missouri, is now in its seventh day. He’s suspected of a shooting that resulted in one fatality and four injuries. His family has mentioned that he displayed signs of schizophrenia. Meanwhile, the FBI has put out a reward of $25,000 for any information on his whereabouts.

On Wednesday, police reported that a body believed to be Sanchez Munoz was discovered in the basement of a charred home by his family. They found the decomposed remains under some debris and contacted authorities around 2 PM local time.

Interestingly, his family had visited the site multiple times since the house was set ablaze after a standoff with police, but the body was only found after debris was cleared away and a noticeable odor was detected.

Prior to this finding, multiple agencies, along with K-9 units, had searched the property in Independence, Missouri, but found nothing. The basement was in disarray, partially collapsed, and flooded, making the search challenging.

This discovery appears to conclude a large-scale manhunt that began after Sanchez Munoz allegedly fired shots at a vehicle near Interstate 70, just a few miles from Arrowhead Stadium, where World Cup games were being held.

In the midst of the search, the FBI had issued a $25,000 reward for information that would lead to his capture, adding that he was considered “armed and dangerous.”

One person died and several others sustained serious injuries during a series of six mass shootings, including an Uber driver who was shot while transporting soccer fans.

Acting U.S. Attorney Todd Blanche speculated that Sanchez Munoz may have died in the Missouri home, though this could not be confirmed immediately by police.

Officials indicated that the clothing on the body matched what the shooter wore in the attack, leading investigators to work under the assumption that the deceased was indeed Sanchez Munoz. A medical examiner is expected to verify the identity and identify the cause of death.

Authorities reassured the community that there was no ongoing threat and that all victims who survived the attack were expected to recover.
