Renowned archaeologist asserts that the tomb of Queen Nefertiti is near to being found

Potential Discovery of Queen Nefertiti’s Tomb

Dr. Zahi Hawass, a prominent archaeologist, believes he is on the verge of uncovering the long-missing tomb of Queen Nefertiti.

A former Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Hawass has confidently stated in an upcoming documentary that he intends to find Nefertiti’s tomb before he retires. The documentary, titled “Man with a Hat”, is set to premiere on Tuesday.

“If I made this discovery, I would gladly end my career with the most important discovery of Queen Nefertiti, the most important queen of Egypt,” he shares in the film.

The location of Nefertiti’s tomb is significant, as it could shed light on Hawass’ theory that she took over the reigns of pharaoh Akhenaten after his death in 1336 BC. Historically, Nefertiti has often been portrayed in a powerful light, much like a pharaoh, yet her burial site remains unknown, leaving her legacy shrouded in mystery during a tumultuous period of ancient Egyptian history.

Recently, Hawass and his team have been excavating the eastern section of the Valley of the Kings, where the tomb of another influential female pharaoh, Hatshepsut, is situated nearby.

Despite lacking definitive proof, Hawass has a strong intuition that they might be close. “We are currently working in one area in the eastern valley near Hatshepsut’s tomb,” he notes. “We hope that this could be the tomb of Queen Nefertiti…this discovery may happen soon.”

Hawass has been digging in this area for years and has already identified two graves, designated KV 65 and KV 66, which could help him create a crucial map of the region and possibly locate Nefertiti’s tomb.

In previous attempts, Hawass has gotten close to discovering Nefertiti’s resting place. In 2022, he claimed that one of two mummies he found in the Valley of the Kings was likely Nefertiti, though that assertion lacked concrete evidence.

The documentary “The Man With The Hat” will be available for streaming on platforms like Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video.
